Digital Vernier Caliper – How to use
Digital Vernier Caliper is an economical, delicate & accurate measuring instrument. It is used to measure distance between two points. These points can be end points of circle diameter, depth of a hole or length/width of an object.
Measuring length or width or outside diameter of a ring or circle –
1) Move outside jaws to touch each other by sliding slider scale
2) Now, digital display should show reading zero or 0.00
3) If digital display is showing any other reading, press set zero button
4) Hold object between outside jaws of a vernier caliper
5) Bring jaws as close as possible to touch both surfaces by sliding slider scale
6) Digital display will now show the exact distance or length measured
Measurement of inner diameter of a pipe or ring or circle
1) Move outside jaws to touch each other by sliding slider scale
2) Now, digital display should show reading zero or 0.00
3) If digital display is showing any other reading, press set zero button
4) Insert inside jaws in a pipe or ring of which inner diameter is to be measured
5) Using slider, slide inner jaws away from each other to the maximum possible length within a circle
6) Digital display will now show the exact inner diameter measured
Measurement of Depth of a hole or container
1) Move outside jaws to touch each other by sliding slider scale
2) Now, digital display should show reading zero or 0.00
3) If digital display is showing any other reading, press set zero button
4) Rest measurement scale’s far end on edge of the hole or container
5) Slide depth measurement probe or blade till it reaches bottom of the hole
6) Digital display will now show the exact depth measured
Differential measurement
This is another useful feature of digital vernier calliper. It is used to measure difference between two readings. Easy to understand application of this is – Measurement of thickness of bottom of a glass or bowl or a container. This is how it can be done.
1) Measure total height of a glass
2) Set digital vernier caliper to zero
3) Measure depth of a glass using depth probe of digital vernier calliper
4) Digital display now shows reading equal to thickness of bottom of glass.
Metric & Imperial measurement system
Digital Vernicar Caliper readings can be easily switched by pressing a button from Imperial to metric system & vice versa. Imperial is a British system of measurement. It is also known as FPS or Foot Pound Seconds. Metric System is also known as MKS or Meter Kilogram Seconds.
